Born in 1980, Miguel Rodríguez Fernández, “El Cheyenne,” is a percussionist from Granada, Spain. Cheyenne belongs to a Spanish gypsy family that has strong ties and great aficion for the art of flamenco. His family is host to numerous flamenco artists ranging from guitarists and singers to dancers. Growing up with such an artistic family in a Gypsy neighborhood in Granada, Cheyenne could not help but develop a passion for this art.
At a young age, Cheyenne began playing in small ensembles made up of neighborhood friends. In 1998, Cheyenne founded the music group "Color Flamenco," of which he was the musical director and arranger.
El Cheyenne began working in the tablaos of Sacromonte-Tarantos, Venta Del Gallo, and Tablao Albayzin, among others. This work allowed him continue to develop as a percusionist and play for the baile. Currently, he is among the top players for flamenco dance in the world. Cheyenne plays cajón for many top dancers, playing most frequently for the dancers, Iván Vargas, Fuensanta “La Moneta,” and Manuel Liñan. El Cheyenne is also in high demand as a percuionist of rock, Celtic, Arabic, jazz, salsa, and latin music.
El Cheyenne has worked with a wide variety of singers, dancers and guitarists, including: Juan Andrés Maya, Patricia Guerrero, Luis De Luis, A.Canales, Javier Latorre, Daniel Navarro, Marina Heredia, José El Francés, Diego Amador, Juan Ramirez, Chonchi Heredia, Antonio Serrano, Sergio Pamies, La Ambulancia Irlandesa, Henri Vincent, Horacio Fumero, Miguel Ochando, Rafael Habichuela, David Carmona, Agustin Carbonel " El Bola", Ana Cali, Alba Heredia, Conchi Maya, and many others.
As a percussinist, El Cheyenne has appeared in some of the finest festivals inside and outside of Spain for including, Festival Flamenco Buenos Aires, Arte Flamenco Festival in Monterrey, Festival Flamenco De Albuquerque, Festival Flamenco Mont de Marsan, Festival Flamenco USA, and the flamenco festivals in Nimes, Marseille, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Paris, Morocco, London, Turkey, Prague, Finland, Luxembourg, Seoul and Italy.
